Dad's values and outlook on life were undoubtedly
shaped to a large degree by the Great Depression, his Civilian Conservation
Corps experience, and World War II. Dad subscribed to the prevailing
philosophy of the 1940's where everyone was expected to marry, raise
a family, and do something positive with their life. It is this philosophy
that guided Dad during his lifetime and what he frequently reminded
his sons to follow. Dad believed that by following this philosophy
we would "Do him proud".
In undertaking this project, one of my goals was to provide visitors
to these pages a glimpse of history as experienced by my father. I
also hoped to provide a historical perspective of my Dad's and his
shipmates' experiences aboard a Landing Craft Infantry (LCI) ship.
Hopefully visitors to these pages will gain a better understanding
of the role that these LCIs played during the war, thereby honoring
Dad, his shipmates and so many others that made sacrifices during
World War II.
Finally, and most importantly, I wanted
this project to be a fitting tribute that would fulfill his wish for
me to:
"Do me honor - do but deed, Do proud lineage - do proud the
seed..."
