- On Dad's Travels
"...Sort of looking back on my travels I guess
I've done quite a bit. Newport [RI] to New Orleans, Virginia, Boston,
New York, Bermuda, Algeria, Tunisia, Sicily and Italy. Had many swell
adventures come to think of it. Incidentally while in Algeria, you
often asked as to where I'd visited at that time I couldn't say, but
Oran and Arzew were the ports. Sure hated to leave there but wanted
to get back to sea so here I am. On the subject of travels I've already
visited Tunis, Bizerte, Palermo, Licata, Augusta and in Italy been
to Capri, Naples and Taranto...Italy's pretty fine and Sicily about
the same as Italy. It seems the drink over here is mainly wine and
it sure is hard trying to eat without coffee...Gee I'm glad I've been
able to see so much and do my little share. Gives a guy sort of a
conceited attitude..."

"You'll notice as to how we make the invasions
by how close we come to shore and so on. If any one thinks they have
a tough job show them this picture and sort of let them figure it
out for themselves. Looks peaceful here but when Jerry's (Germans)
out there he sure makes it hot."
